For Aleah’s master’s thesis, she created a trait-based framework and used a fuzzy logic system to evaluate aquaculture species’ potential to contribute to FCB goals. She is also looking at spatio-temporal trends in the FCB potential of aquaculture in order to inform future management scenarios. She is also interested in qualitative, social-ecological research and will conduct a case study on seaweed aquaculture stakeholders in British Columbia to compare stakeholder preferences for seaweed traits with the influence of those traits on achieving FCB goals.

Key areas of research: aquaculture, sustainable livelihoods, functional traits, achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, food security, climate change and biodiversity.
